The Bosphorus is the First Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul. The bridge is located between Ortaköy (European side) and Beylerbeyi (Asian side). The Bosphorus Bridge was the fourth longest suspension bridge in the world when it opened in 1973 and was the first bridge to connect Europe and Asia since a bridge spanning the Dardanelles in 480 B.C.

It is 1,560 m long with a deck width of 39 m. The distance between the towers is 1,074 m and their height over road level is 105 m. The clearance of the bridge from sea level is 64 m. It was the 4th longest suspension bridge in the world when completed in 1973, and the longest outside the United States of America. Now, it is the 21st longest suspension bridge in the world. Fast Facts The Bosphorus Bridge is closed to pedestrian traffic, so unless you are running the marathon or participating in one of the related fun runs, you wonu2019t have a chance to cross it on foot. At night, you can take in the light show on the bridge from a cruise or a waterfront restaurant. If you plan to rent a car while in Istanbul, note that the Bosphorus Bridge is a toll bridge and the toll can only be paid with a smartcard purchased in advance, not in cash. If you cross the bridge by taxi, your driver will add the cost of the toll to your fare.
