It’s important to not lose yourself in the golden paradise of the Grand Bazaar or another golden market or store. Remember, since the Grand Bazaar is a touristic place, the prices will be higher than in other non-touristic places. Your bargaining skills also play a big role: prices are not indicated there so it’s very important to be familiar with them and don’t let the owner of the shop where you want to purchase a product, fool you. Merchants in Istanbul are very pushy and they don’t want to let the customer go without buying something. But if you negotiate the price at the end you will pay 60-65% of the first price.
Be aware that gemstones may be synthetic in a lot of cases so buying it is at your risk but golden and silver products have a really high quality, though. Ask your seller to weigh it to make sure that you pay money for the correct weight. You also need to find out what the quality of the gold or silver is.
Where else, besides the Grand Bazaar can you buy jewels? For example, next to the Nuruosmaniye Mosque on the east of the Grand Bazaar there is a street which is full of jewellery stores and you can find small jewellery boutiques around the Grand Bazaar.
Apart from bazaars, there are also a lot of jewelry stores in the famous Istiklal Street and shopping malls where you can buy modern and luxury jewels brands like Swarovski, Bvlgari, Gilan and others.
