Istanbul Toy Museum is a private museum and it is founded by poet Sunay Akın in 2003. The museum which houses the most favorite examples of toy history, spanning from 1700’s to today is exihibited in a historical mansion. One of the most important features of the museum is; embracing the families with all its members. With this feature the museum is the place for three generations to spend time together.
4000 unique toys
The white wooden exterior of the Museum is dotted in fairy lights and provides for an inviting welcome. Inside, stage designer Ayhan Dogan is responsible for the decor and displays, and each room is graced with a unique design. The gallery of space toys, for example, has stars which shine from the ceiling and miniature train sets are exhibited inside genuine train compartments.
The Toy Museum is set over four floors, and some of its more well known toys include its oldest resident, a miniature violin from France which dates to 1817. There is also an extensive collection of porcelain dolls and tin toys. The Museum counts more than 4000 unique toys in its collection, of which over a 1000 has been collected from antique dealers and auctions from around the world.
