The Galata Mevlevi Dervish Lodge is the oldest surviving Mevlevi Tekke, in the city. The Museum serves as the Museum of Ottoman Literature now. It was originally built in 1492, but the present building dates back to the 18th century.
The Galata Mevlevi Dervish Lodge is located in a quiet and peaciful garden in striking contrast to the crowding and bustle of the surrounding district.

To the left of the enterance is the tomb of Halef Efendi while opposite stand house of timekeeper and the library. The octagonal interior is surrounded by a small exhibition comprising a varied collection of turbans, manuscripts and musical instrumants.
In the garden there is chance to see the elegantly decorated gravestones of the dervishes and sheiks belonging to the tekke, together with graves of Ibrahim Müterrifika, the founder of the first publishing house in the Ottoman Empire.
