Kilic Ali Pasha Complex was built in 1581, by architect Sinan on the orders of Admiral Kilic Ali Pasha. The sea shore was filled up and complex was built in that area because Kilic Ali Pasha was a great admiral in that time.

The complex contains a mosque, a tomb, a sebil, a medresse, and a Turkish bath. The mosque, the main unit of the complex, is located in the middle of  the courtyard.The Mosque has a large courtyard. There are verses of Quran on cemaric panels over the windows. The last prayer section of the mosque is covered by five domes.

147 windows

The mosque is based on a rectangular design and is an enlarged plan of Hagia Sophia. The central dome of main space of the mosque is 12.70m in diameter. Including the windows of main dome, building has totaly 147 windows. In 1948 a historical beacon belonging to the 16th century, which can be found at the Naval Museum of Istanbul today, was also used for lightening.
