Good service, hosting and great breakfast. However, at times the shower had no hot water and no water pressure. The free airport transfer package (over 4 nights stay - ONLY on a ´special´ package) should be more clearly explained on the website.

We arrived at Hotel Ayasofya with the high expectations displayed on our booking website, recommending excellent hospitality and showing far more superior rooms than the ones we deserved...sadly, and moreover consequently, our stay at this hotel ended as soon as possible ..even though we were forced to pay the charge of 2 nights.
Still, paying two nights was a lot better than staying two nights and i'm sure i would have gone to even greater lengths to get out of this "hotel". I would never recommend this hotel to my worst enemy, and i'm surprised they continue to con people just for a quick buck. The location is probbaly the selling point but be prepared to be woken up by Mosque prayers, excellent if you require a wake-up call at 545am.
The hotel is ran by a male and female (one of turkish origin, the latter is australian). The female was the only reassuring sight for our short stay, but that was short lived as even a feminine's touch seemed to be overruled. Although breakfast is included, be prepared to take a backseat when an employee enters the room and orders omlettes, while the paying visitors get stuck with stale bread and stained cups of coffee. The only upside to this experience was the repeat playlist of 70s classics...i'm sure their food was just as fresh!
Breakfast in most places is always a 50-50 risk and really we shouldnt have expected any better after seeing our hotel room. The bathroom toilet was leaking, with mould buliding on the soap holder and shower head... i wouldnt be suprised if they actually make friends with all the creepy crawlies that come about from such disgust. i don't think they understand housecleaning (especially when they use a dusty mini car vaccuum to pick up spilt cornflakes on dirty pieces of cloth. The sheets were dirty and the beautiful balcony displayed on the website seems to be a picture from when they first opened (probably a century ago).
All in all, our trip to Hotel Ayasofya was a nightmare introduction to a beautiful city. We spent the next morning in the internet room (a side 'room' next to the stairs with no door) looking for other hotels and found that we were closely monitored by staff and at one point told off for having my girlfriend sit on my lap.. even though they only had one wooden chair which surprisingly didnt crack from our light force.
I'm embarrased to give this review a rank of 1, as 0 seems more fitting or maybe 0.1 for the decent music played over and over again...you heard it here through the grapevine!
don't let the pictures fool you, there's probably a reason they don't have pictures of their unfriendly staff too!

AyaSofya was a beautiful hotel with very helpful and friendly staff and a gorgeous breakfast. The views from our room were incredible and we felt the price was a bargain for all that the AyaSofya offered. We could not have been more happy with our stay

The staff at Ayasofya are competent and efficient, although a bit stiff and unfriendly until you get to know them. Then they open up and are very nice.
Don't get excited about the breakfast. It's very basic, and if you want to have Turkish coffee instead of Nescafe powder, they charge you 3TL per cup. It was okay for me, but some travellers might find the breakfast disappointing.
I was able to hear guests in other rooms quite easily. The furnishings were of medium quality, but fine.
The winter menu says they feature food from nearby Cesme restaurant, but when I ordered a pizza (Turkey makes great woodfire pizza Turkish style), the bellman at the door held in his hands a Dominos Pizza box. This was a surprise, and not a nice one.
They kindly held my luggage for nearly 14 hours after check out.
I guess I would recommend it, but not strongly.

I booked this hotel for my parents to spend a week in Istanbul. They loved the hotel and the personnel, especially the owner of the hotel, Gaye. They felt themselves almost home due to hospitality of the personnel and the hotel atmosphere. Great location, wonderful food and clean and comfortable rooms.
I am thinking about going to Ayasofya Hotel myself together with hubby and kids, maybe next summer.

- I cannot review the hotel AYASOFYA as i was being made to stay in Hotel AKGUN and Hotel Sochulapasa (hope i got the spelling rght) - My sense is both hotels were below the amount i paid for AYASOFYA - No complains with the room and staff. Clean rooms and super firendly staff

I really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere at this hotel. It was a great location, a comfortable room and good breakfast daily. There was some confusion about being picked up at the airport but the hotel rectified this by providing me with an airport return upon my departure. I found it very good value for money as well.

The hotel was simple, but very clean and comfortable. The staff was both friendly and helpful. And the location was excellent, easy walk to most sites. We took advantage of the roof top terrace for some meals and enjoyed the view of the Marmara. Overall this hotel offered a good value.

Ayasofya is a lovely, friendly , traditional hotel. Immaculately refurbished It is clean with small, but attractive rooms. It is very near to all the sights, has a pleasant roof terrace and is near a very good restaurant. The Turkish breakfasts were excellent. I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly unless you have difficulty walking as it does not have a lift. However, if coming by taxi make sure your driver knows exactly where he is going. We had a pretty hairaising experience as he seemed unable to find the hotel whithout going the wrong way down one-way streets and backwards along others. However, this is not the fault of the hotel. If it had a lift I would rate it 10.

The hotel facility is sufficient and service is good. The room is well renovated, the furniture is tastefully designed with the local traditional flavor. Unfortunately, the shower room is a bit too small for an adult to use. The hotel is situated in a convenient location which enables easy access to the tourist spots. Our family enjoyed the stay and will certainly come back to stay in Hotel Ayasofya again in our next visit to Istanbul. I have no hesitation in recommending it to our friends.

We stayed at Hotel Ayosofya, Sultanahmet Istanbul, for 4 nights during October 2009. We found the hotel well-run, with pleasant staff and adequate/good facilities (breakfasts included). It was a fantastic location in the old city, with good local restaurants very near. It was only a 5-10 minute walk to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Hippodrome etc. We would recommend this hotel as one with an enjoyable atmosphere.

I would definately recommend Hotel Ayasofya.
It is a really good, clean, well equipped, 3 star hotel. The location is convenient within walking distance of the Blue Mosque, Hippodrome etc. And most importantly the staff are fantastic. They were all really knowledgable about what and when to see things in Istanbul, and the owner Gaye (from Australia) was fantastic in also helping me plan my trip around the rest of Turkey.
I stayed there for 8 nights and loved every bit of it.

We had pleasant stay at Ayasofya. Good size rooms with a clear view to ocean, clean and tastefully furnished. Hotel is centrally llocated, walking distance to main attractions- Blue Mosque, Sophia Hague and the Palace. Manager was very helpful giving us many tips to tour around Istanbul and Turkey in our limited budget. If we ever visit Istanbul, we plan to stay there.

One of the most hospitable places I have lived at. Ever person at the hotel made us feel at home. The Owner (Gaye) went out of the way to arrange and suggest places to visit. Over all experience was A+ . Recommended !!

Hotel Ayasofya, We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The management and staff made sure every comfort was made available for us. Nothing was to much trouble. The room and breakfast was very good. We are looking to go back and stay at this hotel in October this year. I would recomend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Istanbul.
