Yildiz Mosque was constructed in the years between 1885-1886 by Sultan Abdülhamid II. This mosque an unrivalled example of late Ottoman archtitecture. Sultan Abdülhamid II designed this mosque himself. The mosque was built on a rectangular plan and has one minaret. The architecture of the mosque is a combination of Neo-Gothic style and classical Ottoman motifs.
Neo-Gothic and Ottoman combination
Neo-Gothic style Windows, decorative lines add a different complexion on the tambour of the mosque. Star-shaped engravments on the blue decorations/adornments of the dome are beautiful examples of the rich engraving of the mosque.The dome sits on four tick iron columns and has 16 windows. On the left there is a lodge for sultan.
