The Fatih Sultan Mehmed Bridge is known as the Second Bosphorus Bridge. It is spanning the Bosphorus strait. When it was complated in 1988, the Fatih Sultan Mehmed Bridge was the 5th longest suspension bridge span in the world. Now it is the 19th.

The Fatih Sultan Mehmed Bridge takes its name from Sultan Mehmet the Conquerer. He lived in 15th century and conquered Istanbul in 1453 from Byzantine empire.

The Fatih Sultan Mehmed Bridge is situated between Hisarüstü (European side) and Kavacık (Asian side). It is 1,510 m long with a deck width of 39 m. The distance between the towers (main span) is 1,090 m and their height over road level is 105 m. The clearance of the bridge from sea level is 64 m.

An international consontium of three Japanese, one Italian and one Turkish company carried out the construction works. The cost of the bridge amounted to 130 million US.
