Haseki Hürrem Hamam was built by Haseki Hürrem, the wife of Süleyman the Magneficent and work was inevitably entristed to Süleyman’s Great Arctitect, Sinan. Sinan, in order to prevent men and women from seeing each other while entering or leaving, designed a huge rectangular building, with to separate entrances at each and, one for men, the other for women.

Since 2011, it is hamam again
It became seriously dilapidated over years but was restored in 1980 was used during the First Istanbul Bienal in 1987 by Istanbul Foundation fo Culture and Arts as an exhibition. The fellowing year it was converted into an outlet fort he sale of kilims and carpets. In 2007, Istanbul city authorities decided to return the hamam to its original use after a 105-year. After long restoration project that began in 2008  the bath-house re-gained its glory with its opening in  2011.

Fast Facts Hamams are open from as early as 6 a.m. till somewhere around midnight. The masseur and scrubber will be of the same sex as you are. Standard soap is used. If you have sensitive skin or are allergic to some products, bring your own soap . You need to wash your private parts yourself. You’ll get drenched, so women may want to get rid of their make-up first. Also, don’t forget to bring the necessary toiletries. Women may want to bring dry underwear along too. There is no way you can avoid tipping the attendant, so make sure you have some cash money on you. You normally tip 10 to 20% of the total amount. If you care about your (new) tan, maybe visit a hamam at the beginning of your city trip or holiday.
