The Mosque of Sultan Selim was constucted in 1552 in the time of Suleyman the Magneficient. Sultan Süleyman made this mosque in memory of his father. The Mosque has very plain architecture.

It is located in Fatih district on a hill which overlooks the Golden Horn. It consists of a  mosque, a soup-kitchen, a Ottoman elementary school, a hospital, a Turkish bath, and a tomb.

Sultan’s loge is covered an unusual decoration
The ceiling of elevated sultan’s loge is covered an unusual and rich decoration. These are decorate octagonal-shaped windows and doors, inlaid with pearl, on the mosque’s mihrap side, very beautiful tile inscriptions on Yavuz Sultan Selim Tomb.

The mosque is the center of the compelx; with its large dome, it is a typical example of single-dome monuments. The building is made completely of stone, tough in areas of intense ornamention Marmara marble was used.
